A Restaurant Portrait of Pho Daily from Gardena, California

by Jennifer Skopp

A woman contacted Jennifer Skopp to create a Restaurant Portrait of the place where she and her wife had their first date. The woman was planning to give the painting to her wife for Christmas. She chose to have Jennifer depict the restaurant at nighttime.

Pho Daily is a Vietnamese restaurant. Pho is a type of Vietnamese soup, typically made from beef stock and spices. Noodles and thinly sliced beef or chicken are added.

The restaurant occupies the entire building, which is very wide. The name of the restaurant appears towards the top and center of the building. In between the words Pho and Daily is a white circle with an image of a hot bowl of soup and a pair of chop sticks resting on the top of the bowl. The outside of the building is a yellow ochre color. The trim is painted a brownish-red. The two large glass doors and windows have silver trims. A menu appears on the outside of the building in the center. Through the large, wide windows you could see patrons sitting at many tables enjoying the food and waiters moving briskly to serve their customers.
