A House Portrait from Spring Lake, New Jersey
by Jennifer Skopp
Jennifer Skopp was taking a walk in Spring Lake, New Jersey when she spotted this beautiful house with a long row of bright red flowers, that bordered the width of the house. There were also two of those same flowering plants at the foot of the walkway. The red flowers just popped out from the neutral colored house and the healthy green lawn.
This two level, wide house has three stone steps leading to the front door. The wooden front door is stained reddish-brown and has a panel of twelve windows. There are two sidelites that each have a vertical row of four windows. The house is covered with light gray siding, except for the the area to the left of the front entrance, which is covered with light gray and yellow ochre stones. There is a covered porch that wraps around to the right and has six columns. A white vertical railing borders the porch. There are two windows to the right of the front entrance and five windows to the left of it. All the windows of this house have white frames.
Each section of the house has a roof with dark gray shingles. Above the roof that covers the porch is a decorative semicircular structure bordered with the dark gray roof shingles and covered with the light gray siding. Above that is an enclosed porch that is only open in the front. It has a white vertical railing and a set of white double doors. On top of that is a triangular structure with a smaller window, that is the attic.
To the left of the porch is a section of the house that has a Pyramid Hip roof. To the left of that is a section of the house that has a triple window with a recessed dormer roof. Underneath that is the driveway. To the right of the large triangular part of the house are two sections that each have a hip roof. There are seven windows on the second floor, middle section of the house.
